Decided to get a little creative with the rocket launch today! On Friday, August 8 at 11:17 a.m. ET, Falcon 9 launched Axiom Space’s Ax-1 mission, Dragon’s fifth human spaceflight to the International Space Station, from historic Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Following stage separation, Falcon 9’s first stage landed on the droneship, A Shortfall of Gravitas, which was stationed in the Atlantic Ocean. Axiom Space's Ax-1 mission is the first all-private human spaceflight mission to the International Space Station. I was finally cleared by my doctor to go out and shoot photos after my back surgery. I was excited to see how the new camera would do shooting at night compared to my old D750….needless to say the files coming out of the Nikon Z6ii are CLEAN! I’m super impressed. This shot was taken near Sunglow Pier in Port Orange. The ambient light from the hotels lit up the lifeguard stand nicely contrasting with the dark and misty sky above the ocean. I GOT HIT BY A WHEEL AT THE ROLEX! Story time…One of the golf carts that pit crew members use to transport tires to the garage area apparently taken a turn too hard and one of the wheels with a tire on it flew off the cart. Luck would have it I was kneeled down folding my tripod up when it blindsided me from my backside and knocked me down. It knocked my beanie right off my head too and I thought it was just a drunk person at first but realized after what had actually happened. Thankfully the driver of the cart and a bystander helped me up and made sure I was alright. I took that as my sign to head home as I was already dealing with a bad back lol I decided to head to the track the next morning though to make up for lost time and grab a few sunrise shots. "The Wolf Moon" - Jan 17, 2022. It wasn't until the next day after capturing this shot that I found out why the moon was so large and bright in the sky. The Wolf Moon is the first full moon in January and was named after the wolves that would howl more actively during this time. It was originally thought that wolves howled due to hunger during the winter months, however we now know that they howl for many other reasons. The origin of the name is said to have been brought to North America by European settlers, having a Celtic and Old English Origin. This Image is a composite of a few images, one shot for the stars, one over exposing the moon for the glow and the third was 15 shots of the moon properly exposed blended together to reduce noise. I used layer masks in Photoshop to blend the three images together and this was the result! I'll leave the camera settings in the comments. Swipe right for the full image! For this shot I traveled down near Mary McLeod Bethune Beach Park to shoot my second long exposure of a rocket launch. After about a mile walk on the heavily angled and soft sands of the shoreline, I was finally ready to set up my camera. I knew this time I wanted to try to incorporate star trails into the mix, so I found a composition that gave a bit of foreground element as well. Unfortunately the launch direction/orbit for this Falcon 9 Starlink mission took it southbound so the rocket’s path stayed relatively low in the frame but I think it turned out pretty neat nonetheless!
